Welcome to Ginn-Thompson School for Girls, serving families in Cleveland, Ohio. We are a public charter school offering rigorous academics and sports for K-12th grade girls.

Our faculty and staff are highly qualified, invested, and committed to student success. We welcome involvement from families and the community. At Ginn-Thompson, we strive to create a school culture that promotes discipline and encourages excellence.

In addition to academics, students build confidence and life skills through co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities. We offer sports (Basketball, Golf, Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis, Track, and Volleyball) with college-level coaching. Students participate in annual international learning excursions and experiences. Additionally, they attend Cotillion and Beautillion events with Ginn Academy, a local boys’ public school.

Janet McDowell, Principal

Janet McDowell’s dynamic leadership has been instrumental in shaping the academic and personal success of students across Cleveland, Ohio. Now serving as the proud leader of Ginn Thompson School for Girls, she brings a powerful, girl-forward approach that uplifts and empowers young women to excel academically, socially, and emotionally. Her transformative leadership style has led to significant improvements in student performance, attendance, and school culture—all while creating a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment where girls can thrive.

Janet is currently completing her Doctor of Education in Leadership and Learning, with a focus on Organizational Leadership, and brings over two decades of experience in diverse educational settings including urban, PK-8, high school, bilingual, gifted, and school redesign environments. Sherree M. Ray-Dillions

Sherree M. Ray-Dillions, Senior Vice President

Mrs. Dillions joined ACCEL Schools in 2018 with over 25 years of experience as a K-12 educator and principal. Prior to joining ACCEL Schools, Mrs. Dillions worked for Cleveland Municipal School District where she served as Head Principal for over 10 years and systematically turned-around low-performing schools into schools of academic success and achievement. Mrs. Dillions holds a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Master’s degree in Education – Adult Learning & Development, and completed the post graduate Educational Administration Program, all from Cleveland State University. She has also completed the post graduate Urban Superintendents Program at Harvard University. In February 2020, Mrs. Dillions was awarded by Radio One as a “Future History Maker of the City of Cleveland”.

Community School

Ginn-Thompson School for Girls is a public, community school. We are our own school district sponsored by Charter School Specialists, which provides oversight and enforces academic, fiscal, and legal accountability. We are managed by ACCEL Schools, a high-performing network of over 50 charter schools located throughout the United States.  

Community Schools (Charter Schools) offer families an alternative to the local public school. Community schools are tuition-free, open to all students in the county, and focused on meeting student needs for success. Community schools are among the top-performing schools in the nation.
